"September provides a wealth of appealing destinations, with an Indian summer generally blessing Europe and the northern hemisphere with pleasant weather."
Alternatively, head across the Atlantic to the Americas - the autumn colours of North America bless the continent with some incredible scenery, whilst spring in South America sees comfortable conditions and good value hotel rates.
National Parks, across the US
September is a great time to visit the States, and a trip to one of the nation’s national parks will reward you with some incredible scenery. Fall will have begun to work its magic on the leaves and everywhere will have that beautiful autumnal glow. Many parks will be less crowded now, allowing you peace and quiet as you explore the majestic surroundings. A visit to the Redwood National Park in California is especially wondrous at this time of year, and you may well spot some of the forest’s wildlife including the black bear and mountain lion.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
The vibrant city of Buenos Aires lies in the southern hemisphere, and therefore enjoys its spring during the period from September to November. Temperatures will be comfortable during this time and hotel rates should be lower. This is an ideal time to wander through the city’s handsome streets and get to grips with Latin American life. Be warned – you may never want to leave!
September is the perfect time to visit the handsome island of Sicily. The weather is still warm enough to laze on the beach and dip in the sea, and the conditions are ideal to wander around the charming streets of the ancient towns. There are also food festivals scattered throughout September, so you can enjoy some late sun whilst sampling delicious Sicilian fare.
